QotD: Sustaining Soul

Victor Hugo is an amazing writer. Les Miserables is a fantastic book. Another one I would classify as a Masterpiece. However, unlike Lord of the Flies, it is not  a book that I would recommend to just anyone. It is long. And the truth is, it is much longer than the story calls for. If you go into this book looking just for the story you know from a movie or the musical, you will get frustrated and quit.

In many ways, Les Miserables is philosophy, wrapped in a story which envelops the human experience, delivered by a master wordsmith.

If you are a lover a language, if you are patient, if you come to the book to learn instead of be entertained, you will be richly rewarded.
